Many of you Tims have been banging on about WGS not putting a foot wrong in the transfer market.

I know not everybody shares this view (Timalloy for one) and IMO his record has been varied.

Why do you think this summer's intake will be any different?

My opinions of the ones I can rememeber ...

Poor
Gravesson
Miller
Jarosik

Mediocre
Pressley
Hartley
Bjarnason
Sno

Reasonable
Venegoor
Wilson
Caldwell
Doumbe
Riordan (when he’s had a chance)

Very Good
Nakamura
Boruc
Naylor

Pending
Brown
McDonald
Killen
Donati
Other possibles

I know everybody won't have the same assessment but the point is some of his signings have failed to produce and others have been no better than OK.

So how many of the new boys are you confident will be outstanding.
albert kidd
when did WGS sign bjarnason?

i wouldn't have "gravesson" in the poor section.
Fat Bhoy Tim
I think of all mentioned Nimmy the poor i'd agree with but the rest have been decent when in the team they havent really did anything wrong. Guys like Riordon Doumbe etc have all did fine when in the team they just havent had sustai
ed runs in the team. Hartley will be good even he has admitted he hasnt really set the heather on fire but im sure we all agree there is plenty to come from him. Pressley i think has beed sound without being spectactular but i feel he will be a bit part player next season.

On current signings the team i reckon we will see fielded as it stands today is:

Boruc
Naylor
McManus
Kennedy
Wilson

Naka
Brown
Donati
McGeady

MacDonald
JVoH

I'd like to see Hartley stay there but cant see it and with the strength we have in midfield now i reckon Naka and McGeady may not finish games as often as they have if they aint performing.

I'd still like us to sign a class centre back, some like Hypia from Liverpool who we would maybe get at a decent price

1st August 2006

And yer right about Gravesson, he probably ain't that good. smile.gif

Of the POOR ones, overall I'd agree, but they all scored important goals at various times so they also played their part at some point and for me that saves them from being labelled POOR. A fairer description for me would be Not Lived Up To Expectation.

Mediocre I agree with Pressley and I'd actually push Hartley into the Not Lived Up To Expectation column. But no way would I agree with Bjarnason as the big guy only got something like 2 games and for a youngster playing first team football for the first time I think he did remarkably well!!! Sno also has done very well, so I'd bump him into Reasonably Well column as a swap for Doumbe (didn't get much chance, but did score an important goal in the Cup Final!).

Reasonably Well, I agree with, with the above substitutions.

Very Good, speaks for itself really and Wilson might've made it in here if he hadn't gotten such a long stay out with injury.

Of the ones pending, obviously Scott Brown is the only one I know a lot about and have a big expectation of, McDonald and Killen are back up squad players and if they can do what they did for their previous clubs then I'll be happy. Donati, I have no idea about so I can only hope we've won a watch there!

Good post auld fella! biggrin.gif

all the players mentioned have done a decent job and bar jarosik & tommy g (imo) have all given 100%

they've also weighed in with as someone said very important goals.

thanks for your efforts and good luck

tommy g
miller
jarosik
caldwell

stick around and fight for your place
Pressley
Hartley
Bjarnason
Sno
Wilson
Caldwell
Doumbe
Riordan

see you next season
the rest

Remember that Sno, Jan, Caldwell and Wilson have all been out with various injuries over the season. It's quite hard to judge them fully.

I'd prefer to focus on the overall transfer policy, buying and selling. Some of the money coming in has been tremendous. £1million for a future Bosman, looks like £750,000 for Marshall, about £8Million for Stan. And best of all, up to £1.75 Mill for Beattie blink.gif Although i hear he pulled a hamstring whilst signing the contract. (Is he a Murray Park product? And if so, is that a record sale? Either way, thanks to the Gers for that one). Granted, Lawwell takes massive credit for these prices but WGS will have the final say on who goes.

As for the "ins", every signing is a gamble. Some come off, some don't. Graveson and Jarosik came with big reputations which they haven't lived up to often enough, although I wouldn't be too unhappy if they were still here next season. Overall I am more than happy with the total transfer dealings, and look forward to more in the coming weeks.

You're happy with 700k for Marshall? Only a couple of years ago he was the brightes young 'keeper in the world!

So the media said, but that money for someone not good enough to stay in the squad is good dough IMO.
jay_RFC
Well, he was good enough under the saviour...
albert kidd
i would have been happy with 250k!
jay_RFC
Not after that famous Barcelona match, you wouldn't have...
jay_RFC
Was he not worth £10m back then?

i can assure you that no-one like me claimed he was.

£2m for Beattie and Marshall is excellent business imo.

You couldn't get rid of Sebo and Klos for that amount of money could you?

the huns would struggle to get £2m for one of their first team never mind their fringe players.
Danny
They are struggling to even get £2m from Murray's piggy bank anyway.
jay_RFC
It would be hard for any team to get anything for Klos considering he's retired. Besides, it was Tony Mowbray who bought Beattie, and he's always been a bit weird...must have been his stint in Parkshed that did that...
Piebochan
Quite a surprise to get that sort of money for Beattie! It's a shame it didn't work out for him, he has all the heart necessary, but is just far too injury prone, best of luck to him!
I can understand Marshall not wanting to hang around much longer, but to be fair, he did have a great chance to make the jersey his own before Boruc came and he didn't take it - fair argument about the defence in front of him being a liability, but in the end I think his confidence was just shattered. All the best to him as well!!!

cool.gif
jay_RFC
If the rumours are true and Boruc does indeed leave Celtic for a bigger club, do you think you'll rue the sale of Marshall?
Piebochan
You're just desperate for some bad news about Celtic aren't you? rolleyes.gif Nakamura's going to leave "only question is to where"; Boruc is going to leave... blah blah blah...! laugh.gif

No matter how much you wish for it, these two players are not going to any team other than Celtic this season... next season maybe, but if they do there'll be a helluva large fee for them and we'll buy top replacements with it, so no, I doubt we will regret letting Marsh go!

cool.gif
jay_RFC
I still think that at least one of them (preferrably Nakamura) will leave this summer...
Piebochan
No, son... you don't 'think' he'll leave... you're 'hoping' he'll leave and that is just not going to happen!!!

cool.gif
jay_RFC
You're in a dreamworld mate...Nakamura will probably do a Petrov and join a bigger club...such as Aston Villa laugh.gif

why? he never turns up in a glasgow derby and is only on the pitch to take free kicks.
jay_RFC
True, but the same can be said of Boruc (minus the free kicks)
Piebochan
I think most of our bhoys gave a pretty good account of themselves last night, Miller took his goal really well, Zurawski looked interested, Jarosik got in about it... only one for me who didn't look good was Gravesen, he really needs to stop fucking about when he's got the opposition bearing down on him in our own half!!!

But after only being in training for 3 days, that was a very good performance and win for us!!!

A draw is enough to win the competition on Saturday... start as we mean to go on, first comp in the bag!!!
