Setanta on Gilberto rumours
'Hertha Berlin star Gilberto has refused to comment on reports that talks are underway to take him to Manchester United.
Hertha are determined to tie the Brazilian to a new contract but the midfielder has sparked some speculation about his future during an interview with Bild am Sonntag.
"I have many offers," he revealed. "Perhaps Berlin will sell me to England or Portugal or I will return to Brazil.
"[Manchester United?]I would not like to say anything on it."
The German reports claim Sir Alex Ferguson views Gilberto as a useful squad player who would act as cover at left back for Patrice Evra. After selling Gabriel Heinze to Real Madrid, John O'Shea has been used as back-up for the French defender.
Benfica are also known admirers of the 31-year-old, who would appear to be an unlikely target for United, with Ferguson insisting at the turn of the year that he will not be making any additions to his squad during the transfer window.
In any case, The Red Devils already have a crowded midfield so a specialist left back would appear to be a more obvious target.
Hertha want to tie the South American to Berlin until 2010 and it will be interesting to see if his comments are possibly forcing his current employers to speed up their negotiations.'
Would be nice to see him coming in, though I dont know all that much about him. Gill has said no more moves would be made by United but thats no certainty.
